Lesson 1 - Computers and Computer Systems 

Objective:

• Understand the difference between a computer and a computer system
• Classify Computers
• Identify system components
• Recognize how computers recognize data
• Identify types of storage devices

Review/Assignment:

1. List the 4 processes all computers perform.
2. What 2 operations do computers perform?
3. What is the relationship between data and information?
4. Make a list of the general computer categories and find examples online.
5. What are special special-purpose computers?
6. Select a computer and diagram it.  Include major motherboard components and expansion cards.
7. Describe the function of the ALU and the Control Unit
8. Understand and diagram the I-cycle and E-cycle and how it relates to the machine cycle (Mod 1-17)
9. What is the advantage of using SSD over magnetic storage?
