Take a look at your previous post.  We are continuing the Computer Buying Project.

Follow the rubric when creating your final project.

Moving on .......

We have explored hardware and are now moving onto data.

Programming is creating a set of instructions that tell the hardware what to do.  We are usually writing programs that collect or manipulate data to produce usable information.

For next class:

What do you think about when you hear the word data?  Where can it be found?  Where does it come from?

Intro

Week ending 31 Jan 2014

Last class we began to explore the terms computers and computing.  We classified computers into categories.

Review Question:
    What four processes do all computers perform?



Based on what we have learned about computers so far, interview a staff member to find out what features that person would like to have if they were buying a computer.


  • What will be the uses of the computer?
  • What are the space constraints?
  • What is the price range?
  • Are there any special features they would like?
  • What types of software will they run?


The interview answers will be used to spec out a new system after we learn about hardware components.

You will receive a hard copy (printed paper) of the Computer Buying Project, Computer Components Checklist and the rubric.

Project will be due 31 Jan 2014.

Why do we need to learn about hardware in a programming class?

           Without software, hardware is useless.  Software provides the instructions to hardware
